Perceive the Good

Perceive the Good

Erik and I are in the process of redecorating our dining room in efforts to help our house feel a bit more like home and squeeze a couple more people around a dinner table. We knew right off the bat we did not want to spend an arm and a leg so Facebook Marketplace became our (mainly just my) favorite hobby. We spent spare time looking for a used table, bench, and mismatched chairs to bring character to our little home. When we put our ideas for the dining room to paper, we realized we would have a lot of empty room and thought it would be nice to have a storage area for other kitchen things currently stacked on top of our fridge. So, we started the hunt for a dresser and quickly realized the desire of finding a mid-century modern dresser under $1,400 was rare.

By this point we had found a table, most of our chairs, and were on our way to pick up a bench. As we arrived to the storage unit to meet the kind man selling us the bench, we saw it. Sitting on it's side next to the dumpster on the lot was a beautiful brown mid-century modern dresser. The drawers were not fitting correctly and it was evident they just weren't in their proper place. There was a little bit of water sitting on top and a bent knob, but other than that it looked almost new. We asked the man if this dresser was up for grabs and he kindly said, "Yes, people leave things they don't want by the dumpster all the time. This must have just gotten here because I've never seen it." He gave his input on the woodworking of the dresser explaining how it's incredibly built and then offered to help us load it in the car.

Erik and I couldn't help but laugh at the Lord's sweet generosity and sense of humor. By no means did Erik and I NEED this dresser, but we sure wanted it and the Lord knew that. He knows every inch of our heart and every thought in our minds and even into the very depth of our souls. He is the all knowing all powerful God and sometimes He just likes to let us know He's listening, that He's providing, and that He wants to give good gifts to His children.

For every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. - James 1:17 ESV

It's easy for me to become doubtful, thinking a situation will never come to pass, stress will always build, relationships will always be difficult, and so on. In a sense, there is some true in that we will not reach our glorified state till Christ returns, but our God is not waiting to bless us till then. He is giving us good gifts right now. Here in this moment, today, He is providing you with sweet gift from Him, the sweet gift that IS HIM.

Last week at church we studied this passage in Isaiah:

Remember not the former things nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new things; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? - Isaiah 43:18-19 ESV

Do you not perceive the good things to Lord is working in your life this very moment? He is at work, I can guarantee it. He's working in the bigger picture and sees the smallest of needs in your heart and He is working on your behalf. Perceive the goodness of our Father. He is providing for you, today.
